IBM, Shell work on wireless

IBM and Shell Oil will work to add IBM's wireless technology to Shell's retail locations. Under the e-Station program, IBM will outfit Shell stations with wireless equipment that will transmit inventory data and other information to Shell headquarters, allowing the company to monitor and improve retail operations and reduce operating costs. For IBM, the agreement is another sign that the company is pushing its wireless technology into nontraditional computing devices. A pilot program will be conducted among a set of representative Shell stations.
