Hewlett-Packard fans will get a chance to see CEO Mark Hurd in action at next month's HP Technology Forum in New Orleans.

The former leader of NCR has been named the feature keynote speaker at the HP-produced event running September 12 - 15 at the Morial Convention Center. The event will feature more than 400 technical sessions and 200 hands-on labs.

Former Ohio Senator and astronaut John Glenn has also agreed to speak at the event.

The annual gathering will be the largest showing of HP certified professionals this year now that the independently-produced HP World was cancelled back in July. Technology Forum organizers said anyone who was registered for HP World in San Francisco in late August can get a complimentary exchange on their registration.

HP had been trying to combine several of the technology forums and conferences over the last few years in hopes of unifying the major HP user groups including Encompass and the OpenView Forum International.

The show may be the first time the public will see Hurd since HP announced it would be handing out pink slips to 10 percent of its employees.
