Helen Hunt takes to Twitter because Starbucks thinks she's Jodie Foster

Technically Incorrect offers a slightly twisted take on the tech that's taken over our lives.

You go to Starbucks and Twitter for the same reason.

You need a quick jolt, as well as a little personal chatter with strangers.

One of Starbucks' shticks is to ask your name. It wants to make sure the coffee it makes is yours and only yours.

My baristas, Kurshina and Marie, leave their own nicknames for me on my cup. I think they're meant to be flattering, but I'm not always sure.

However, Helen Hunt doesn't need to play those games. The "As Good As It Gets" Oscar winner wandered into a Starbucks and ordered a drink.

She offered to give her name. There's no point being a hoity-toity actress, is there?

What happened next drove her to Twitter. She tweeted: "Ordered my drink @Starbucks Asked the barista if she wanted my name. She winked and said. "We gotcha."

The power of celebrity can be greater than the power of politics or diplomacy. People look at you differently. People feel as if they know you.

And so it was that Hunt got her cup of dirty-yellow-colored something with her name on it: "Jody."

Not only had the barista mistaken Hunt for Jodie Foster, but she hadn't even spelled "Jodie" correctly.

It's unclear which Starbucks enjoyed this faux-pas. Hunt didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

However, the company was quick to apologize by replying to Hunt's tweet: "Sorry about that! We hope the drink was still as good as it gets."

You'd think Starbucks might have replied that it was experiencing the silence of the lambs. But still, it's always good to, um, foster good relations with celebrity customers.

For Hunt, it offered a little Twitter jolt. Her tweet has already enjoyed more than 14,000 retweets and more than 33,000 likes.

I wonder if the Starbucks barista is on Twitter. I wonder if Jodie Foster is tempted to go into the same Starbucks, just to see what happens.
