Slashdot has kicked off April Fools' Day in the tech world by changing its signature teal color theme to a warm palette of bubblegum pink.

The move is in response to its marketing department's "extensive reasearch over the last three quarters" that its "audience is strangely disproportionately skewed toward males."

What really got us chuckling, however, was the change in its masthead from "News for Nerds. Stuff that matters" to "OMG!!! Ponies!!!"--a surefire way to reach that untapped female readership.

Those Hello Kitty gadget owners are bound to become new Slashdot devotees.

CNET, by the way, is also in the Fools' Day spirit.
