Gemstar licenses tech to Mitsubishi

Gemstar-TV Guide International announced on Tuesday that Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America is the latest consumer electronics maker to sign a multiyear licensing deal for use of in North America. Mitsubishi already has a deal to use the guide in Japan and Europe.

The guide provides an electronic version of show listings, something that is becoming increasingly important, as more and more channels become available. Mitsubishi joins other licensees, including JVC, LG Electronics, Matsushita Electric, Philips Electronics, Samsung, Sharp, Sony and Thomson. Mitsubishi will pay Gemstar based on the number of units sold that use the guide.
