As it turns out, combining two viral casual gaming sensations results in a masterpiece.
It's happened. Someone crossed the streams. Someone has finally put together two of 2014's hottest gaming crazes: Dong Nguyen's Flappy Bird and Gabriele Cirulli's remake of Sirvo's Threes!, 2048.
That someone is Dan Moran, AKA Broxxar on itch.io, a computer science major at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. His game is Flappy48, "the ultimate flapping/exponential growth crossover you haven't been waiting for".
How do these two concepts work together, you may ask? Rather well, actually. Instead of a bird, you have a number to guide through the gaps in the pipes by hitting the spacebar or left-clicking with your mouse. In between, you collect more numbers; two adjacent numbers of the same value will merge, and your score is predicated on those merges.
Usually we'd be a little dubious, but this seems to be a rare case where combining one great thing with another great thing actually does produce something of exponential greatness.
