Evernote is expanding its cloud-based clipping and documents platform to small businesses with the introduction of Evernote Business.

Announced amid the Evernote Trunk Conference in San Francisco today, Evernote Business is touted to optimize the "remember everything" app for businesses by allowing employees to create, collaborate and find documents and projects from wherever they are.
The extra business-friendly add-on is that the platform should support organization-wide deployment, including the option for company-wide sharing for individual notes and notebooks. However, individual users will still have full ownership over their personal Evernote notebooks.
From the management side, Evernote Business includes a centralized console system and "Customer Success Manager" for monitoring activity and providing support to employees using the platform.

But the expansion of Evernote to entice small businesses could be setting up the Redwood City, Calif.-based company for competition mode with the likes of Google Apps and Microsoft Office 365.

Evernote might have started off as a nifty app for clipping things around the Web, but it's actually incredibly useful as a cloud-based word processing program for note-taking and writing from nearly any device. So long as you are connected to the Internet, the syncing process is rather seamless, and it's automatic as soon as you're connected to a network, so there's hardly any work or learning curve involved.

Certainly, Evernote's current offerings alone aren't going to dissuade any customers from Google Apps or Office 365 as both of those services offer many more programs and a higher level of functionality. But this could be a major stepping stone for Evernote as the platform expands.
Evernote touts that it already has 40 million individual registered users on the app, which can be accessed from numerous portals, including desktop browsers and installed apps as well as mobile devices.
Evernote Business will be rolling out this December.
