Auction site eBay said it has redesigned the format of its "item pages," which feature details about listed merchandise. The company unveiled the new design on Monday, introducing new options for uploading photos and more prominent placement of the "Place Bid" and "Buy It Now" links, as well as bidder status information. In addition, placing a bid will now open a new Web page.

The company made the changes based on feedback from its customers, said eBay spokesman Kevin Pursglove. But the redesign set off a flurry of complaints posted to eBay's chat board on Tuesday. Many lamented that the new format makes bidding and setting up auctions more complicated.
