Dell's price cut encore
Dell is cutting prices on its corporate desktops by up to 12 percent, following a reduction last month of up to 16 percent on the same line.
Dell, which says that business, government, and education customers account for 90 percent of its sales, has cut prices effective immediately on the OptiPlex line, including the following models:
--The GXpro 200 with 200-MHz Pentium Pro processor, 64MB EDO ECC memory, a 2GB SCSI hard drive, and an 8X CD-ROM running on Windows NT 4.0 was priced at $4,092 and is now $3,852, a reduction of 5.9 percent.
--GXL 200 with a 200-MHz Pentium processor, 64MB EDO memory, a 3GB EIDE hard drive, and Windows 95 was $2,885 but is now $2,550, a decrease of 11.6 percent.
--GL 166+ with a 166-MHz Pentium processor, 32MB EDO memory, a 3GB EIDE hard drive, an 8X CD-ROM and Windows 95 was $2,374 and is now $2,189, a drop of 7.8 percent.
All the configurations listed above include a 15-inch color monitor, integrated 10BaseT Ethernet, and 256KB of cache.
