CSC wins NASA outsourcing deal
The IT services giant wins a $278 million outsourcing contract to commercialize NASA's data communications.
Under the deal, Falls Church, Virginia-based CSC said in a statement that it will provide provisioning services to best meet NASA's data communications needs.
Specific tasks involve identifying wide-area network (WAN) service providers to integrate voice, data, and video services across NASA, and continually assessing data communications to ensure the timely introduction of new commercial products and technologies.
CSC said it has been chosen by McLean, Virginia-based Wang Government Services, a subsidiary of Wang Global, as a subcontractor under the Consolidated Space Operations Contract (CSOC). CSC's portion of the contract is valued at $278 million if all options are exercised during a 10-year period of work, the company said.
Lately, CSC has been on a contract winning spree which helped boost the company's profits by 24 percent in its fourth quarter reported last month.
CSC, also in May, had won a $1.2 billion ten-year contract to manage computer and manufacturing systems for United Technologies' Pratt & Whitney jet engine unit, as reported by Bloomberg. Under that deal, CSC had said it will run Pratt & Whitney's 20,000 desktop computers worldwide as well as its large servers and telecommunications and data systems.
In today's agreement, CSC's services will be provided directly to Wang Government Services, which is responsible for consolidating all the WAN services under the contract. The contract work will be done by CSC's network engineers at NASA facilities in Huntsville, Alabama. Wang Global, headquartered in Billerica, Massachusetts, is an international networked technology services provider.
