Criterion Collection adds ground-breaking film 'Boyhood' to its ranks

After earning numerous awards and critical praise, the Richard Linklater film "Boyhood" gets an extras-packed Criterion Collection edition.

It took 12 years for director Richard Linklater to make his coming-of-age film "Boyhood." But it only took two years for there to be a Criterion Collection edition. After much acclaim, and winning numerous awards including an Oscar, Criterion has released an extras-filled edition of the film.

"Boyhood" is about growing up. To emphasize this, Linklater shot the film on-and-off over 12 years allowing his actors to age. The result was a truly one-of-a-kind family drama highlighting the ups and downs of the Evans family. Check out this 2014 interview Download.com did with Linklater.

The Criterion edition not only includes a 2K digital transfer of the film, but also essays, discussions and audio commentary. There is even a behind-the-scenes documentary shot over the course of the 12 years of filming.
