Could 'Star Wars: Episode VII' feel like 'Return of the Jediatrics'?
Harrison Ford and others express interest in joining the next "Star Wars" movie. Do you think it would work?
Some would consider Disney's announcement of acquiring Lucasfilm (and the "Star Wars" franchise) for a little over $4 billion epic enough as is. Disney stunned sci-fi fans further with the additional announcement that Star Wars: Episode VII would arrive in 2015, causing many to wonder who would direct the movie, and more importantly, who would star in it.
It might take awhile to find out who the actors in "Episode VII" will be, but at least we know that the most cantankerous of the bunch, Harrison Ford, is onboard with participating in the highly anticipated follow-up to "Return of the Jedi," according to Entertainment Weekly.
The Hollywood rag quotes a "highly placed source" who says that "Harrison is open to the idea of doing the movie and he's upbeat about it."
Ford, now 70, played Han Solo -- a precariously cocky space smuggler who wages wars within himself over the desire to be good and evil -- throughout the original "Star Wars" trilogy.
The insider confirmation follows activity from Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia Organa), who reportedly also expressed interest in playing a role in the upcoming "Star Wars" movie.
Does including an aged Han, Luke, and Leia make sense from a storyline standpoint, though? Only George Lucas and the people actively working on the script for "Episode VII" know the answer to that question.
It certainly seems logical to flesh out a Han and Leia love story, complete with kids, while Uncle Luke trains the next generation of Jedi somewhere far, far, away. While many post-movie "Star Wars" books have those aforementioned story ideas covered, remember that a source recently told E! that "Episode VII" will be an original tale. Maybe Han, Leia, or Luke could die as a possible shocker to kick off a new trilogy.
