Casio's computer division is planning to release a PC running the Windows CE operating system by Christmas.

Casio said the product will be priced around 50,000 yen ($500), according to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Japan's largest business daily. Windows CE is an operating system developed by Microsoft for handheld devices and offers functions on par with Windows 95.

Casio estimates that the world market for handhelds running Windows CE will reach 1 million next year and aims to take a 50 percent share of that business, the report said. More than 40 companies from the United States, Europe, Japan, and South Korea have formed a group to promote Windows CE as an industry standard.
