Business software maker CA on Tuesday named Alan Nugent as chief technology officer, filling one of four top management posts that have gone vacant over the past few months. Nugent, 51, succeeded Mark Barrenechea, who is leaving CA to join a venture capital firm. Nugent has served as senior vice president and general manager of the company's enterprise systems management business unit. Prior to joining CA in 2005, he held senior technology posts at companies including Novell, BellSouth and Xerox.

CA has also lost its chief operating officer, chief financial officer and global sales chief over the past few months, as Chief Executive John Swainson tries to turn around the struggling company after five straight years of losses. CA announced a major setback in that effort on May 30, when it delayed filing financial results with regulators, said it expected to post a quarterly loss instead of a profit, and warned that it would restate its most recent results.
