AST seeks the Advantage

AST launches a multimedia PC equipped to bring television programming, videoconferencing, and Internet access to home consumers.

AST Computer (ASTA) today launched a multimedia PC equipped to bring television programming, videoconferencing, and Internet access to home consumers.

The new PC, called the Advantage 9312, are aimed at the home market and priced accordingly, at $2,599 apiece. The Advantage is available immediately and comes with a 166-MHz Pentium processor, a 2.5GB hard drive, and 32MB of RAM.

Also available are enhancements from Intel that include a video phone for videoconferencing; intercast technology, which allows for Internet access; and television viewing, with the help of the user's cable TV provider. An analog color camera and a digital 28.8-modem for real-time voice communication are also available.
