Ask Jeeves to launch TV spots

The search engine is seeking to sell its brand through a series of TV commercials.

Ask Jeeves commercials will return to television after a gap of four years, the search company announced Monday. A series of six 15-second TV spots will promote the search service. The ads will appear on national cable, primetime and syndicated television with the tag-line: "Ask Jeeves. And get what you're searching for."

The TV campaign, created by TBWA\Chiat\Day San Francisco, builds on an online, print and outdoor brand promotion the company launched in 2003. "We believe the Ask Jeeves TV advertisements will increase brand awareness, drive users to the site, and positively impact consumers' impressions of the brand," Greg Ott, Ask Jeeves vice president of marketing, said in a statement. The search competition has been heating up as companies try to woo users with new offerings such as local and video search. A recent survey showed that while actual search results differ little among the top five search sites, consumers remain devoted to one or two brands.
