So continues the media exodus to the greener pastures of tech companies.
Arem Duplessis, The New York Times Magazine design director, is headed to Apple in February as a creative director, according to Mediabistro. He joins the ranks of several other prominent media types -- including and who both joined Yahoo -- to recently head to the tech industry.
It's not yet clear what Duplessis, who worked at the magazine for almost a decade and was behind some of its most memorable covers, will specifically be doing at Apple, but he will be joining the company's internal marketing team.
Duplessis has a decorated background in magazine design. Under his watch, the NYT Magazine design department was named "Design Team of the Year" for three consecutive years. The team also won an Emmy in 2012 for a video series on great actors playing villains. Duplessis is also an associate professor at the Pratt Institute's graduate communications design department, according to his LinkedIn profile.
He told Mediabistro: "I have worked with some of the smartest people on the planet and it's been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I feel very fortunate to have been able to experience such a great gig. With that said, it's time for a new chapter and a new challenge."
Update, 10:45 a.m. PT: Adds detail on Duplessis' background.
