Amazon wins 1-Click patent case

Appeals court decision means the e-commerce giant avoids what could have been an embarrassing and expensive dispute. has won what could have been an embarrassing and expensive dispute over whether its 1-Click checkout system was patented by another company. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, which hears patent appeals, on Monday upheld (PDF here) a lower court's grant of summary judgment to Amazon.

Amazon gained notoriety years ago for attempting to enforce its own 1-Click patent system against Barnes & Noble's Web operations. IPXL, which could try to seek Supreme Court review, claimed in the lawsuit that Amazon's 1-Click system was covered by a patent on electronic transactions.
