Will the long-rumored Apple TV refresh finally make an appearance at Apple's October 22 event?

Speculation is running wild Friday after Amazon France and Amazon Germany both indicated that Apple TV units were unavailable and would not be replenished until October 23 -- a day after an Apple event that's expected to bring new iPads, among other things. Amazon US, meanwhile, still has Apple TV units available, as does Apple's own online store. Amazon France was updated with Apple TV stock, but it's being sold through a third-party and not Amazon.

CNET's live coverage of Apple's October 22 event

An Apple TV refresh has been rumored for months. At Apple's iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C event last month, the company was expected to unveil a new Apple TV, but didn't. Now hopes are high that the device will make an appearance at Apple's iPad event.

But still -- it's not exactly a smoking gun that two Amazon stores in Europe have run out of Apple TV stock. Apple, of course, has remained mum on the topic. We'll just have to see what happens at the company's event Tuesday. Check back then to see CNET's end-to-end coverage of that event.
