How to sort your Android apps automatically
Android users are familiar with the problem of app overcrowding. Apps are easy to download, but can be hard to find when you want them, and it's hard to balance ease of access with limited screen space. LiveSorter is a great app that helps you keep all your other apps organized. Here's how to use it.
If your home screens are in a constant state of flux thanks to a slight case of Android Market addiction, there's hope. While it's still a good idea to keep a few apps onscreen for immediate access, you can use an app called LiveSorter to automatically keep your apps sorted in folders and access them quickly based on your needs, instead of paging through your app list hoping to remember the name of that one awesome tool you downloaded last month. Here's how:
- Download and install LiveSorter for $1 from the Android Market.
- The first time you run it, LiveSorter guides you through its initial sort. You've got to be connected to the Net in one way or another, so make sure you're online and then tap Next.
Once it's ready, you'll see a notification in the top bar.
Step 2: Sort pre-existing apps. - Now you can add folders for easy access. I keep mine on the next page over from the main screen, but you should find somewhere that works best for you. Just long-press on the screen, select Folders, then select LiveSorter. Select the category of folder, rename it if you like, choose grid or list view, and select a folder icon.
- As you add apps from the Android Market, LiveSorter sorts them automatically, but it won't autosort apps you download from other sources (like Amazon.com). You can still add such apps to a folder, but you'll need to remember to do so each time.
