Week ahead: Networking oasis
Networking players pitch tent in Las Vegas for this year's NetWorld+Interop confab next week, with Cisco's John Chambers slated to speak. Plus, more tech earnings.
As spring break comes to a close, networking industry players are expected converge on one of the more notable events in the coming week--NetWorld+Interop Las Vegas 2003. Cisco Systems' top dog John Chambers will serve as a keynote speaker, as will other luminaries.
Other highlights of the week include quarterly results from Borland Software, Quantum and RealNetworks.

- Borland makes software development tools. It is expected to report a first-quarter loss of 3 cents a share.

- Akamai Technologies provides Web server services. It is expected to report a first-quarter loss of 15 cents a share.
Thursday, May 1
- InfoSpace develops wireless and Internet software and applications. It is expected to report a first-quarter loss of 4 cents a share.

- Consumer Confidence tracks the results of a broad survey on consumer spending expectations. The April index is expected to rise to 69.4, from 62.5 the previous month.
Thursday, May 1
- Auto and Truck Sales gives the total of domestically produced vehicles sold. April auto sales are expected to climb to 5.9 million, from 5.5 million the previous month. Truck sales are expected to rise to 7.3 million, from 7.0 million the previous month.
Friday, May 2
- The Unemployment Rate is the percentage of American workers looking for jobs. The April rate is expected to grow to 5.9 percent, from 5.8 percent the previous month.
