We can't wait to see a young Han Solo get into trouble! Lucasfilm

Ever wonder what happened to Han Solo to turn him into the smuggler, thief and scoundrel we all know and love?

A new "Star Wars" movie directed by "The Lego Movie" duo Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, and written by Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon Kasdan, will focus on Han Solo's younger years.

Lawrence Kasdan also wrote the screenplays for both "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi," as well as the upcoming "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." His son Jon is best known for his writing on "Freaks and Geeks."

Christopher Miller and Phil Lord will sit in the directors' chairs for the new Han Solo movie, announced Tuesday. Miller and Lord's directing credits include "The Lego Movie," "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs," "21 Jump Street" and "22 Jump Street."

"We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us," Miller and Lord said on StarWars.com.

"This is a dream come true for us," Miller and Lord added. "And not the kind of dream where you're late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you've loved since before you can remember having dreams at all."

The "Star Wars" film will also be executive-produced by Lawrence Kasdan and Jason McGatlin and co-produced by Will Allegra.

But fans ready to buy their movie tickets now will have to be very patient padawans since the new Han Solo movie isn't due to hit theaters until May 25, 2018.
