Palm has named Gareth C.C. Chang to a newly created seat on its board of directors, the handheld maker said Wednesday. According to Palm, Chang has been a driving force for establishing aerospace and digital technology in Asia. "Gareth brings to Palm an important depth of expertise in technology innovation and marketing to customers internationally, especially Asia," Palm chairman Eric Benhamou said in a statement. Until last year, Chang served as chairman and chief executive of Star TV, a satellite broadcaster in Asia, and served on the board of media giant News Corp. Before joining Star TV, Chang was president of DirecTV, the satellite-television unit of Hughes Electronics, and was president of Hughes International. Previously, Chang worked for 20 years at aerospace giant McDonnell Douglas. Chang currently serves on the advisory council of Nike, on the board of audio technology company SRS Labs, and as executive chairman of the board of Click2Asia, an Internet media company that focuses on Asians globally.
