Microsoft and Nortel have formed a strategic alliance for business communications, the companies said Tuesday.

The two companies will work to develop software for traditional business phone systems, using Microsoft's unified communications software platform and Nortel software products.

The four-year deal also calls for the two companies to use each other's technologies in their enterprise networks.
