J.K. Rowling asks fans not to buy stolen Harry Potter prequel story

The handwritten tale was auctioned to support a writer association and is extremely valuable, police report.

J.K. Rowling is urging fans to not a buy a stolen Harry Potter story.

If someone offers to sell you a handwritten Harry Potter story, don't buy it, says the author.

J.K. Rowling and the West Midlands Police are telling fans that a rare Harry Potter prequel story was stolen during a burglary in Kings Heath, England.

"The story, penned personally by J.K. Rowling over two sides of an A5 postcard, is extremely valuable and stolen during a burglary in Kings Heath," the police tweeted from their official account Friday.

Rowling said the story was created as part of an auction supporting the English Pen writer association.

"PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS IF YOU'RE OFFERED IT. Originally auctioned for English Pen, the owner supported writers' freedoms by bidding for it," Rowling said in her own tweet.

The story was taken sometime between April 13 and April 24 along with jewelry, the police department reported on its website.
