Cable turns up the speed
Virginia seems to the place to be for super fast broadband. On Thursday cable company Adelphia announced it will offer a new 16 megabits per second service to residents in Leesburg, Va.
Cox Communications, another cable provider, boosted speeds in its Northern Virginia territory to 15mbps back in May. (Word has it, the cable company could be boosting speeds in Rhode Island, too.)
The new super high-speed broadband services are popping up in regions of the country where Verizon is rolling out its FiOS service, which runs over fiber connections directly into people's homes. Verizon has created a tiered service offering with broadband download speeds topping off at 30mbps.
Coincidence? Probably not. Just goes to show what a little competition can bring.
