Bloggers quickly took to the keyboard this morning in spreading the word about Apple Computer's recall of 1.8 million batteries used in some iBook and PowerBook models.

Many articulated their lack of surprise--they were just waiting for the other shoe to drop after Dell's historic recall last week of Sony batteries using the same technology.

But at least one admitted to smugness on the part of Apple owners last week upon learning of Dell's mishap.

Blog community response:

"Just when you think Sony couldn't get any worse... And weren't we all so smug when we heard about Dell's misfortune?"
--The Unofficial Apple Weblog

"...I figured that the Dell recall would not be the end of it...So that's a total of 5.9 million Sony batteries recalled. There's very little I need to add, but is that really it? Sony says it is, but are we truly done?"
--Alice Hill's Real Tech News

"Between all the PS3's bad press and these battery recalls, it's not going to be an easy year for Sony, is it?"
--Gizmodo

"CNN says: 'Sony said its recent recalls--8 million batteries for Apple and 4.1 million for Dell announced last week--will cost the company between $172 million and $258 million.' This works out to $30-$46 per battery (vs the $129 that you or I pay). That's one heck of a profit! To be fair it might actually cost Sony more to manufacture these batteries because since this is a recall they might have told their suppliers to wave their profits."

"Well, it makes sense that Apple calls the recall at this time since there was one report of a Powerbook exploding versus the 6 DellsÂ….but isn't that interestingÂ…that's probably the ratio of people that have a Dell computer to an Apple."
