AOL to challenge MySpace?

Blogger Dave Winer wrote on his Scripting News blog on Wednesday that he'd "just heard a rumor that AOL is going to challenge MySpace, 'head on,' to be announced in approximately two weeks."
In response to questions about that rumor, an America Online representative declined to comment beyond this statement: "There have been previous reports regarding how we are looking at making it easier for AIM users to connect with their circle of 'buddies' and others within the AIM community on topics and activities of shared interest. Right now we don't have anything else to share."
