First Look: Vestalife Firefly Speaker Dock for iPod

1:31 /

If you're looking for a unique speaker dock for your iPhone or iPod, the Vestalife Firefly is a good option with solid sound quality, a small footprint, and several handy features.

>> Jasmine France: If you have an infinity for a particular species there's a good change that you can find an iPod speaker doc that emulates it; dog, cat, frog you name it, even insects case in point this Vestalife Firefly speaker doc for the iPod and iPhone. It may look pretty unassuming at first but you have to admit even with its closed ball form it has a vaguely alien insecty look to it. Opening the wings reveals the bug in full glory along with a central iPod dock and some light up volume controls lining the front. Inside here is lined with soft mat plastic that gives the unit a quality feel. Also despite the nicely small footprint the speaker has a weighty feel that prevents it from appearing cheap. Flipping the Firefly around reveals a variety of features. Here we have the subwoofer as well as various ports, video output, pass through synching via mini USB and an auxiliary line input for use with the shuffle or any other non iPod MP3 player. Vestalife even includes a cable for this purpose as well as this handy remote which can navigate the iPods music menus as well as control playback. The final features revealed on the bottom of the unit where you'll find a concealed compartment for double A batteries. The nice thing about this compact and unique looking speaker is that it provides solid audio quality and gets nice and loud making the $130 price tag pretty palatable.
