Using smart shades to transform the CNET Smart Home

I've spent the last few days replacing the shades at the CNET smart home, and now this whole space is fully automated, so the question is, what does that mean? Well, let me show you. Automated shades are useful for difficult to reach windows, and they look pretty cool, but when you outfit a whole space like this, you interact differently with it. Now, when I walk into the room each morning, the first thing I do, before I turn on any lights Is hit the button to open the shade. [MUSIC] Part of the reason why we installed Lutron Serena Shades is that control goes beyond the button. If I'm sitting on the couch, I can just tell Siri to close all the shades And she will. I can also schedule them so they open in the morning or close at night. Most of these windows face south so we get a lot of diffuse natural light but for the windows facing west I can schedule them to lower as the sun lowers giving me the light of the setting sun without the glare. Finally, I can control the shades with widgets on the today pull down menu on my Iphone. Practically, this is how I use the shades most. Because it takes a swipe and a tap no matter where I am.
