Tomorrow Daily 099: VR 'Pokémon,' real-life fireball shooter, a Middle-earth map and more

Culture
A VR mash up is making one of our childhood dreams come true, you can now train Pokemon. A glove that lets you shoot real fire balls from your hand. Where does the lighter fluid come from? A fully interactive experience of Middle Earth, and it just keeps getting better. You are not Ashley. That's been done before. It's Tomorrow Daily. [MUSIC] Hello and welcome back to Tomorrow Daily, the best key, geek talk in the known universe. You already flubbed it up. I did. Come on man, it's my first time. All right? I'm Khail Anonymous and with me not as always, with me is producer, Logan. On this side of the camera. Yeah. I feel real weird being over here. That, that, that's the like bizarro Tamara Daily. But I think we're gonna get through it. Yeah. Ashley is sick. She's either at home in bed treating her illness, or she's stuck in front of a TV playing Captain Cove's Treasure Trek. [LAUGH] Either, no, she's playing video games. But she's like half awake. All right. That's how we. We all did it as sick kids, like we, you know, it was just a day to play video games, not, recovery. Yeah. I've played Bioshock Infinite while I was sick. But enough about us being. Sick. Let's get into our, our headlines. Why don't we. [MUSIC] Logan, you may never be on the show. But being on the soundboard, you know that I love VR. I love virtual exp, virtual reality and anything that's, that's coming up. Cuz it's just, there's always something new. And this goes hand-in-hand with something I love a lot, which is Pokemon. Okay. Yeah. [LAUGH] [LAUGH] You're just happy it's a Pokemon story. exactly. I mean I. [COUGH] This Pokemon story, which is all I care about. Well what we have here today for you is a mashup of two of the VR technologies that we've seen before which is oculus and leak motion. This is first person Pokemon, and we're going to take a look at it right now. Or the lower third first. Yeah, we'll look at the lower third. But, what, what I'm really excited about is I always wanted a console version of Pokemon and this. Seems like it's colored pretty close, here it is. It's a VR experience. They tried that sort of like, you know, experience, but in this one, you pick up the Pokeball and you throw it, so it's just like in the cartoon, and then you give them voice commands and they will do it. So you say, like. You say, Pikachu use thunderbolt, oh it's a little wonky. And it just kind of slips out of his head. [LAUGH] It's a little wonky and let me explain why. This is actually my favorite part of this story, beyond the fact that you can act like you're Ash Ketchum. This all a, this video was made by, uploaded by someone named Misterbunbun. It uses Oculus and leap motion which is the one that lets you control your hand as well as a software called voice attack. Now what I really like about where this video came from is it came from a, a, a jam, like a VR leak motion 3D jam. So it was one of many contestants. And this contest that's going on, and there's tons of really cool things. It's all sponsored by Indiecade, and it's in the voting process right now. There's one where you ride a dragon, there's a VR touch experience for Windows, and, there's one where you control a portal, and you, like, open it up and look inside of a different world. Whoa. But, yeah, when it came out, right here, Pokemon uses. Not only the oculus and not only leap motion but also this voice attack software. And we've seen, we've seen technology use both oculus and leap motion together before. We covered it on the show. Um-hm. That's true. But this is actually putting it in something we can have. Like perspective on. Yes. And we've all played Pokemon so we can kind of like. It's making something come true. Yeah. And that's always really exciting. So. And I feel like if anybody is gonna get on the VR train, the best first, it's gonna be Nintendo. Yep. Playstation kind of involved with it already. But I think Nintendo is going to be the first one to actually make it fun. Right. I mean, yeah. I mean everybody's going to have the headsets but ,. Yes, so there you go, you can, you can train your own Pokemon, it's a little wonky, but you know, we'll see what happens moving forward. Yeah. All right, so what do you got for us today? Alright, have you ever wanted to shoot fireballs out of your hand like Super Mario? yes, like every, every single day. Well, now it's a possibility just by something you strap onto your wrist. That's scary. This is called, this is, it's called the Pyro Fire Shooter. And it's available through illusionist. It uses four nitrocellulose charges to shoot out these little fireballs. So you have four before you have to reload it. Only four? Oh, I'm sorry. Can we continue? Yeah. And it's very discrete. Black and it has like, it looks like a wrist watch and it hides up your sleeves. So all you have to do is point in the direction you want fire to go. Yes. And it will go there. And it's, you don't have to light it. It's like self-contained [CROSSTALK]. Right, yeah no, the, the the flash charges contain flash paper and cotton and they're, and each, each flash charge is good for 60 uses. Oh okay. So you get four before reloading. So 4 times 60 as we know is 240. So, with this, with the starter kit you get essentially 240 uses, or fireballs that you can shoot. They shoot about ten feet before they start to burn up. So you can't do any fireball sniping, but you can [LAUGH] get some pretty close-range fireballs. Yeah, but you can light somebody's cigarette from across the room. Exactly. That's kinda neat. Yeah, that's a good little bar trick too. I, just like, oh, you need a light? Let me get that for you. Boosh! Oh, my God, it's your hair! [LAUGH] But that's, so what, so what you're saying is. It launches out a paper, is this lighting a paper as it shoots out? Well that's, the paper is what kind of is the ignition and it's shooting out nitrocellulose, it's using nitrocellulose to fuel the flame essentially. Okay. So yeah, flash paper and cotton to kind of ignite it. And are you ready to know how much you can have this fire shooter for? [LAUGH] Yeah. How much does this thing cost? $174. Ok. Not, not terribly expensive. Not super expensive. But if you're into illusions then this might be something you want and you could really freak out some friends. I'd probably **** with it for like a week and that's it. Yeah. Like and then, and then I'd be worried about like. Getting caught with it. With, with this and any kind of toy that requires you to buy refills and probably, through the manufacturer. We couldn't find any information about whether you can put your own Nitro Cellulose. If it's even available to the general public. Yeah. But. What, what with this, the problem with this kind of a toy along with anything like, like Spiderman web shooters where you have like silly string canisters, is you have to buy the refill through the company that sells them, and they are pretty much fitted for those devices. Right. So I'm, I'm always. It's hard to feel cool when your like reserving it. Yeah. All right that's it for now. That's it for today. You get one more tomorrow. Not gonna do it. Hey do that thing? No, no, can't Yeah. I can but I'm not gonna. Nvidia, that company's out of business now so like I can never do anymore. Yeah you're right. But it's really cool. Like I think it'd make a great, for cosplay it'd be a really, it'd be really awesome. That brings us to today's hashtag of the day. Oh. Oh Okay, what is that? It is #TDPyro and what we want to know is what kind of special cool ability would you like to equip into a glove type of device like the like the fire shooter. Okay, you start. I want to be able to shoot ice like Iceman from X-Men. Yeah. Because I wanna be able to like glide around on my own little ramps and stuff like that. Right. I know. I've always thought that that was really cool and that was my favorite X-Men, too. Yeah. I would I think I would just wanna, I, I think I wanna just blow, like just go air. That would be cool- Yeah, yeah. Cuz you wouldn't have to, like, buy refills for that. Yeah. Or maybe if you did it'd just be like a tiny little CO2 canister that you can just put in, like, a clip. Yeah, but imagine like somebody's holding a paper and just blow it out of their hand or, you know, like. Just like, you know, if someone has candles at a birthday party just blow them out. Like I used to have a similar I'm just, I'm just trolling obviously. Yeah, I used to have a similar toy where it was like an air cannon that you can snipe people with air from far away, up to like 20 feet away. [LAUGH] You just aim and you go That's so mean. and then they would feel it. As long as there's nobody but you. Exactly. All right. I'm all about that though as I've told you from my [UNKNOWN]. Experiences, I'm all about just messing with people. Yeah. It's just a couple of, you're watch, you're watching troll-vision. [LAUGH] Exactly. Okay. So this next one is another geek fantasy come true, and it is basically an interactive, like, exploration map for Middle Earth. And it's really detailed, and even better, it's made by Google. So, I mean, like, how could it possibly be bad? Right, Google doesn't put their name on everything, oh wait they kinda do. Well, but that's all the stuff I want. But anyway, so what's, the reason why we're reporting on it today, cuz it's been around for, like, a little while, not a whole long, not a whole long lot of time but. Now they've added fighting to it. Now you can go in to any part of the map and play as an Orc or you know like a hero. And fight your friends or like fight just random people online. Right. it's, it's really cool. You can play it on your computer, your Tablet, your phone as long as you have. You know one of the more updated ones. You can't play it on your iPhone two. You have to play it on a Chrome browser though. Okay. On the phone you use. Like I saw yesterday. Yeah, you should be playing it on Chrome Browser anyway. Exactly, so if you're using an iPhone or an iPad, you have to download the Chrome browser app and then play it with that. I tried to use Safari but it didn't work. No, not a good idea. But this is obviously like a promotion for you know, the Hobbit coming up. Yeah did you get a chance to play it? The website is middle, middle-earth. Www.thehobit.com. So I think, it's an advertisement for The Hobbit. I didn't get to play it. I only got in one match. I played as an Orc, because it was like, are you evil. And I clicked that faster than I even knew I could. And then yeah, I got into one match, only the training one actually. Same with me. I was not able to successfully connect to a server, although I waited a minute or two to try. But I did a really cool thing, shooting bow and arrows. Okay. So that was pretty cool. It is, it's like a turn based game, you do your attack and then they take a turn, but again, it's all free, it's online and it's pretty impressive for a browser based game. Some of it reminded me of Diablo, where it is an overhead map of the character and you are kind of choosing which way you walk and who he is going to fight and. Use your special abilities and all that. It reminded me a little bit of Eve. Yeah, yeah. It's. And I think there's like an upgrading system, too. Cuz you can, like, add people to your to your roster. Yeah. More enemies, so. Yeah. So yeah. No, but definitely check that out. It's it's a lot of fun. So all right. So that's, that's it for our news. Next up, we're gonna do new releases. Yeah! I made it through. Yeah. I was a little nervous, but we got halfway through. Let's see how the other half goes. Yeah! Let's, let's go. [MUSIC] Welcome on back to the show. Welcome back to Tomorrow Daily. It is Tuesday today, which means that there are new releases. New releases for you to take your wallet out and buy for the holidays or for yourself. So and without further ado the best bumper because of the music, New Releases. [MUSIC] They really, it really is the best one. Some good releases, I think it's the best new release of this week. I totally agree. Alright, so we are starting off with a game, we've got, we've got a game, some tech and some movies, so start off with a game. First one off is Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris. What do you know about this one? I know it's a, it's a new, it's, it's the second in a line of Lara Croft games that are unlike the Tomb Raider series. That's right, no more of that like platformy stuff, so to speak. Mm-hm. It's a top down game. It's kinda like Smash TV in a lot of ways. If you, if you remember that retro game. It's very arcade, arcade like. Yeah. Like it plays like an arcade game But what's being hailed about this game, is that it is four player co-op. You need all of you to work together to accomplish your, your tasks. But apparently it's pretty good. Yeah. The developers have said it's pretty good. [LAUGH] Yeah, and some of the early reviews are, are looking pretty good too. It's supposed to kinda be a nod to the old Lara Croft, but more lighthearted. Smirky type of Lara Croft. Oh, okay. Rather than the dark, brooding one that we see now. Yeah. Too serious. And in this place, did you ever play the Halo: Spartans game where it was top down and you're kind of just running through with co-op people and shooting in a direction. Yeah. It's very similar to this. In fact it was, there was very, there was another Lara Croft game just like this like I said earlier called ,. What's it called? And the Guardian of Light, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. [CROSSTALK] Yeah, no this is the sequel to that. [CROSSTALK] Yes! So here are the two best things about this before we move on, it's on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, so everything, and it's $20. So you got $20 wi, with you and your friends, 80 bucks- [CROSSTALK] [UNKNOWN] Buy all of them. There's some good cheap games out there on, on those PS- [CROSSTALK] Yeah and it's a co-op game, so it's extra special. I love it. All right, coming up next. We have the Samsung VR Gear, Gear VR. For those of you have been waiting for a consumer, affordable VR, this is it. This is the one, you pop it in that little headset and you have 3D on the go, it was for the Note 4, right? You have to have a Note 4. Right. In order to use this. And then, well there was one other phone, but Ashley would know, obviously that is why I am usually on the other side of the screen, I don't have that kind of recall. The Note 4 we didn't, actually I'd not 100% sure, usually I know all about the VR, but I'm not 100% sure what what games or, or like, what is available to use with this, but I'm sure Samsung has some things that they're gonna release with this. Yeah, so they have some movies and games. That's perfect. The experience is supposed to be like you're at the theater watching the movie, and you could look right there's like seats and stuff like that. I wish we had one. You get a 96 degree viewing angle. Oh that's great. So it takes up more then. Takes a pretty good amount of your, of your sight. It comes with an accelerometer, gyrometer, geomagnetic and proximity sensors. And I, does, does it have earbuds? I don't believe so, but for navigation, it does have a touchpad, back button, and volume keys. All right. So actually, the volume keys [CROSSTALK] Did they say the, the price for this thing? That'd be good to know. [LAUGH] Crap. All right, well there's that. [LAUGH] There's no, there's no, we don't know the price. I'm sorry that's, that's one we missed one thing. We're gonna say it's 14.75. [LAUGH] So there you go, just go out and pick one up with any pocket change. Moving to movies- Things we actually know about. Two movies that are coming out this weekend, one of which is Top Five. Yeah this is the the written and directed by film from Chris Rock. Yep. Where he plays a person like Chris Rock, not named Chris Rock. Yeah. But he is playing a comedian that wants to turn dramatic actor. Uh-huh. And that's not necessarily Chris Rock but it's something similar to a lot of. It could be. A lot of the types of people that we've seen in the media. Yeah. Like a Kanye West type of person. Not. Not only a comedian, but he married a reality star and is kind of going through the troubles of dealing with that and just trying to reinvent his image in a way. Yeah, this is also a star studded cast as well. Oh yeah, I saw Adam Sandler make, makes an appearance and he is like, top billed on IMDB, so I was surprised to see that. There's J.B. Smoove, Kevin Hart's in it, which I'm not too much of a fan of. [LAUGH] But yeah. No. I mean, it's getting good reviews. It's, I think it was like, 86% on Rotten Tomatoes last time I checked. There's 50 Cent. 50 Cent is in it. Yeah. Oh, ka. Tracey Morgan is in it. Tracey Morgan before the accident. Yep. So the Tracey Morgan. You know, why do you have to bring that up? [LAUGH] Yeah. That was, that's still a downer. The, [LAUGH] So moving on to the next movie, that would be Inherent Vice. I'm so excited about Inherent Vice. Paul W. U. S. Anderson film coming out in, Paul Thomas Anderson. Paul, P. T. Anderson. Is it? P. T. Anderson. P. T. Anderson. You wouldn't want it to be Paul W. Anderson. No! No, and it said G. T. Anderson. It seems to be kind of a return to form for P. T. Anderson. Because his last movie, The Master, I'll let you take this one. Right. You're upset about this one. P. T. Anderson is a brilliant filmmaker. He's made, There Will Be Blood. He's made, Boogie Nights. [CROSSTALK] The Master, which was his most recent one before this, and this is why I think that Inherent Vice is a return to form for him, because The Master, although I thought it was a good movie, I don't know if I liked it, necessarily, cuz- Yeah. I don't, I didn't quite understand it. It was very good, and visually really cool, but. Not, not very relatable, or not very like, not very much of a movie you can really enjoy. So you cannot deny that you saw it. Oh yeah. That's how I felt when I was leaving the theater. I was like well I saw The Master. And I completely remember it which is a great sign. Yeah. I always think like a bad sign of a movie is one I don't remember two weeks from it from when I saw it which is a lot of movies. But the master sticks with me. But sometimes you remember bad movies. Yeah that's true. And those are the ones that are worth like cracking open a beer and enjoying with your friends. [LAUGH] Getting too drunk. Exactly. Alright so there you go, those are the new releases coming out that are coming out this week. Don't forget that the last two are coming out Friday, so don't go to the theater tonight to try to see them. That brings us to one of our favorite parts, which is User Feedback. [MUSIC] Wait a minute. Who's controlling the show if you're here? Well I put my clone in there. His name Rune Kinkaid. Hm. He is a wonderful video producer like myself. And he is helping us out today. Wow. While [CROSSTALK] Yeah. Sounds like a very nice lady. She, or Ashley? This room lady you are talking about. Yeah she is pretty cool. [LAUGH] Oh that is cool, well thank you room, alright so user feedback, we had a hashtag, which was TD weight, TD game weight and we got some responses from you. Basically, we asked you before your crush us, we had an article in which. You could play Pong with someone as you're waiting across the street, and so, we asked you which game you would wanna play while waiting across the street with someone on the other side. Yeah. Guess what the first one was? It's pretty related to today's story. Joshua says. Pokemon! Yeah, I agree with that, yeah. That's a good one. [UNKNOWN] get to pick your Pokemon, that would be- Yeah, and that's a little bit of a difficult one, because you get really into Pokemon, so it's one of those games where you end up stuck at the crosswalk all day playing Pokemon. Plus nobody beats me at Pokemon, so that would be, like, unfair. Right, but Pokemon is a great game to just pick up and play for a little bit, and then. And head out. That's true. That's true. If only, if there was a way for them to do save games at those cross lights, that'd be perfect. I'd go, I'd go walk to the drug store every day. Inject a save card. Yeah. That's, that's too much technology. Alright, our next one comes from Matt and he says Dr. Mario. Nintendo rules. That's a great choice. Also a great choice. I love Dr. Mario. Dr. Mario is probably the reason I got into video games. Not because I played it, but my mom played it and got me into an N, or got an NES because of it. It's funny that your mom started you on that. So. Dr. [CROSSTALK]. Our next one comes from Dylan. He says I'd like to see a versus of Pac-Man while waiting at a crosswalk. Pac-Man would be pretty good. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Another, another one you can just pick up and play. No save games needed. Nice bringing retro back. Okay. Our next one comes from Alec, this is our last one. The Sims 4 create a sim demo, or in a shopping, or in a shopping district there could be other game demos near game stores for advertising. [LAUGH] He's trying to help them out. Yeah. He's trying to turn crosswalks into billboards. Yeah, I do like the I do like the create a sim thing, that's. That's pretty good. Yeah. Very, very cool. Definitely. Anything like, any kind of game where you can create something like a, just a quick little drawing or something like that. That'd be pretty cool. Yeah. I, well I can't draw so that would be useless to me, I don't know. Well no one really knows how to draw in like, MS Paint. Oh, I thought you were saying no one really knows how to draw. Oh no, there's plenty of people that know how to draw. No. I am, you. And it's funny, people. You know. Oh, sorry. Go ahead. Somebody'll send in an MS Paint that'll change your mind. Somebody, somebody, one of the viewers is going to be like, oh no? Picasso. You know? Yeah. Maybe they'll send it in for Phonetography, but it'll be like, more of a sketcher, a sketchtography. You can't, no. That doesn't exist. You just have to send it to the Twitter account. But we'll ex. Explain to you how to do that later. Until then, phonetographer of the day. [MUSIC] [NOISE] All right. This one comes to us from David C. He used a iPhone 5. And he's a, this guy's in Costa Rica. I'm David Cecerno. God, don't, don't listen to me, from Costa Rica. This ticket's from a beach off Costa Rica, and I took it with my iPhone 5S. I love your show. That's a great photo. Great. Wait. Come back. Go back to the photo Ricky. Go back to the photo. There we go, I feel so better inside. Wow, yeah, nicely done. Yeah and Ashley likes to say, there's a lot of colors there that aren't here in LA. She says that? She says that a lot, she likes to say there is a lot of green there, we don't have that kind of green in LA. It's a beautiful place to live- Yeah. Just in general. It's really great, thankyou very much David. Yeah, I totally gotta go to Costa Rica. Thanks for watching, he's my new favorite viewer. Oh yeah? Yeah, he's absolutely my new favorite viewer. [INAUDIBLE] Costa Rica. Man, going a long list of favorite viewers. [COUGH] Yeah, they're, they're, they're strong. There's a, [LAUGH] a strong list. All right, so that's all the show we have for you today, but, if you would like to follow the show or send us a phonetographer, some comments, whatever your TD is, what's the TD again today? It is TD Pyro, which we want to know what your what you'd put in, on a glove. Yeah. What kind of super power or something similar that you put on the glove. So you can email that to us, or you can send it to us on Twitter, or, Facebook, or any of those social medias. Instagram, if you're on Google Plus. At /TomorrowDaily. TomorrowDailyTV. All of those things, oh Instagram, I didn't even know we had an Instagram. Yes, so there you go. So there you go. Any of those will work fine, send them to us. We check them everyday, so. And if you're listening on iTunes like a lot of you do please rate, subscribe, review us. That helps us get to the top of the charts, brings awareness to the show. And we want more people to interact and send in Phonetographers, so. All right, that's it. I'd like to thank Producer Logan for coming in today. I'd like to thank Kel for putting up with my poor hosting abilities. They were, they were, I give it a 7.5. All right [LAUGH] Yeah, it's pretty good. See, see, see. That's all I strive for. And again, we'll be back tomorrow with a whole new docket of weird, wacky, wild news and I guess we will see you later, be good humans. [MUSIC]
