'The Man from U.N.C.L.E' review: Double agents meet the high life

[SOUND] [NOISE] He's trying to stop the car. The man from U.N.C. L.E, Guy Ritchie's movie reboot of the classic cold war spy series is soon to hit cinemas. TOne man who has already seen it is suave undercover agent The man from CNET himself, it's Rich Trenholm. Hello, Rich. Hello. Double agent. Double agent. Oh, no, I'm not supposed to tell anyone that. Triple agent, triple agent. So is the film any good. Yeah, I liked it. It's a kind of breezy, [INAUDIBLE] Faithful pastiche of 60s spy movies. It's nowhere near as serious as some of the spy movies seen in previous years, so it's really kind of fun. It brings to mind James Bond, but it also brings to mind Harry Palmer as well. Another kind of classic '60s spy, so, yeah, I enjoy it. Watching the trailers, it definitely looks like there's a lot of style coming to the forefront here. How does style play into the movie? Well it's easily one of the best-dressed movies of the year, if not for quite some time. I mean, right from the leads, who are there with Henry Cavill and his The three-piece suit and the Napoleon bolo and Eddie Kyrican as the Russian Agent who has a different look. There's all these kind of 60's mod style red mini dresses and sort of chic outfits. And looks simply fantastic. You could say that it's a bit style over substance. It's very very glossy and the plot isn't really that much to speak of but it's a real treat for the retro mod 60's fan. How's the action in it? What does it bring to the action movie table? It kind of approaches each action scene instead of saying okay this is a car chase and showing you a car chase with the kind of convention that we've before, we tried to do something a little bit different. So its more of a game of cat and mouse than it is a tire squealing. Smashing, crashing, kind of car chase. There's quite a few action set pieces which deliberately played for laughs and for comedy and some done in slighty different way, which put me in mind of the slightly off kilter way that they made it Crest files back in the 60s. [INAUDIBLE] With that with Michael Caine. It's a little bit different to what your standard action movie. It's quite breezy and playful, and quite fun with it.>>With Mission Impossible we've got another Bond coming up, that Kingsman. It feels like spy movies are back in fashion?>>Yeah, absolutely. It's interesting that Mission Impossible, Rogue Nation is another 60s reboot. Kingsman was, again, a very playful, very stylish movie, and I think we're starting to see a return to the idea of the gentleman spy, the dashing spy hero, which is interesting because we've finally learned, or always known, that spying is a bit Sordid and a bit tawdry. But now since Edward Snowdon we've learned that it's not only really sordid, but it's also really banal. So it's kind of interesting to see that we're taking solace in these fun, dashing 250 gentleman spies again. So would you recommend people go see it? I think if you're a fan of sixties spy movies then it will harp back to the movies you might watch on a sunday afternoon.
