CNET News Video: Tech Minute: Tips to get top dollar when selling online

1:00 /

Whether you're doing some seasonal cleaning or looking to unload a valuable collection, sites like eBay and Craigslist are a great place to sell your goods for top dollar. But sometimes it can be difficult to know how to price an item. In this Tech Minute, CNET's Kara Tsuboi reports on some easy price-setting tips.

-No matter where you resell your goods, ebay is a great place to start for learning the market value of your items. After logging on to the site, enter the item you'd like to sell to look at comparable sales. For example, a vintage Star Wars Lunch box. After the search results pop up, you'll notice a number of filtering options on the left-hand side of the page. Scroll down to buying formats and choose the Buy Now option. This will immediately show you what price other people are comfortable letting their items go for. Another route is to view the prices of similar items that have already sold. Choose that filter on the left-hand side under Show Only and select completed listings. Whether selling on ebay, Craigslist, Amazon or even at your next garage sale, hopefully these steps will price you in the right ballpark. In San Francisco, I'm Kara Tsuboi cnet.com for CBS News.
