CNET News Video: Tech Minute: Helpful apps, Web site for naming baby

1:00 /

In Great Britain right now, there is a lot of speculation as to what Prince William and Princess Kate will name their baby. Victoria for a girl? George for a boy? If you too are in the hunt for a baby name, turn to technology to pick out the perfect moniker for your little one. CNET's Kara Tsuboi reports on some helpful apps and a Web site in this Tech Minute.

There are countless apps out there to help you find the perfect name for your baby. I recommend the free 50,000 Baby Names app for iPhones and Androids. Narrow down the enormous list by choosing a gender or even going with a special theme like flower names or jazz names, or by origin like Bulgarian or Dutch. Find a name you like, Favorite it, or click it to learn more details. The 99-cent app Baby Nametrix is fun for predicting the future profession of your wee one. Peruse statistics like where in the country a name is popular and what political leaning someone of that name has. Did you know that Noah's are often democrats? Finally, ones you have a serious list of contenders, head over to the Social Security website for baby names to check out the name's popularity. Type in a name and choose a period of time to track its popularity over the decades. In San Francisco, I'm Kara Tsuboi, CNET.com for CBS News.
