Sticker collection grows on Facebook, Path
-The sticker wars have begun.
I am Bridget Carey and this is your CNET Update.
You may have noticed that Facebook recently added the option to send cute expressive cartoon images in private messages.
Facebook calls them stickers.
Well Facebook just added a new sticker pack, this time characters are animated.
It's all free right now on Facebook but it's only a matter of time before people start paying Facebook for more stickers.
Just take a look
at the social networking app Path, stickers are one of the main ways Path makes money.
And Path just added a $2 sticker pack featuring Peanuts characters.
Charlie Brown, Snoopy, you know, all the gang.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have entered the era of the social media sticker wars, but the only way I pay stickers is that they had at least a Frink pack-- irresistible.
A frequent complaint about Twitter, is that the stream of updates can just feel like lots of noise.
Well Twitter seems to be looking in
to how we can filter tweets to show you what's been said near your location.
AllThingsD reports Twitter's testing the way to show you tweets being sent near you, even if you don't follow that person.
And maybe it can help you discover something cool going on.
And you know what else people complain about, how the Wii U is slow when you try to load menus or switch apps.
Well Nintendo just pushed out a major system update that is said to speed things up.
And for those of you who want to download classic games, the Virtual Console library will soon have more
titles to purchase.
Would you pick up an Android notebook for 200 bucks?
Executives at Intel said some Android-based notebooks with Intel mobile processors, will hit stores at prices as low as $200 within the next few months.
These could likely be tablet hybrids with detachable keyboards.
AT&T is now in the home security business.
It launched a new home security and remote monitoring offering called Digital Life and a subscription for it starts at 30 bucks a month.
Verizon and Comcast also offer their
own security services.
And we end this Update with an important bulletin.
Last Update you heard the news about Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, auctioning off one-hour of his time for charity.
As of Friday afternoon, the bid to have a cup of coffee with Cook has exceeded half a million dollars.
The bidding remains open until May 14th.
So if you got the cash you could still have the chance to become Tim Cook's new bff.
If you have the chance, what would you talk about for an hour?
Share your suggestions on what the winner should do
in the comments or send it out.
That's your tech news Update, you'll find more details on these stories at cnet.com/update or you can follow along on Twitter.
