First Look: Sony Bravia DAV-HDX267W

1:52 /

The affordable Sony Bravia DAV-HDX267W home theater system is loaded with features, but a dearth of inputs and the somewhat-convoluted, wireless rear-speaker setup dampen our enthusiasm.

[ Music ] ^M00:00:01 >> Hey everyone, I'm Jeff Bakalar, assistant editor at CNET dot com and I'm here today with the Sony DAV HDX267W. The 267W is a midrange model in Sony's Bravia line of home theater systems. Not only is it a DVD player but it's also a receiver for multiple audio devices. The DVD player can upscale movies to 720P and 1080I over the HDMI output. On the front of the 267W, you'll find buttons for DVD playback, you'll see everything pretty standard that comes with a DVD player. Also, you have five buttons that represent the five discs that the DVD player can play. The 267W also comes with optional wireless speakers. The way this will work it transmits sound to a rear infrared receiver using this amplifier will provide the sound to the rear satellite speakers. The 267W doesn't have as many video inputs as we would like but instead you can take advantage of Sony's proprietary digital media port, which will allow you to purchase one of the four Sony products that will connect to the receiver allowing you to listen to a variety of audio sources. In regards to sound performance we found that the 267W is average. In addition you can't control bass or treble. Overall the 267W performs well for a midrange model in the Bravia line. You may want to opt for a more expensive model in the line, you'll get a lot more features and options as well. I'm Jeff Bakalar and this has been the DAV HDX267W. [ Music ]
