Sonim XP3300 Force
-Hi I'm Jessica Dolcourt with CNET.com taking you a first look at the Sonim XP 3300 Force.
This is the latest in Sonim's line of ragged phones.
It's built to military specifications; that mean that it's built to withstand the elements, things like shock, dust, extreme heat and cold, and maybe even a little bit of concrete.
But before we do that, I'm gonna give it a call to prove to you that this phone is really on in life,
and it did.
Okay, so now that I've proven that the phone is alive, I'm gonna attempt to smash into smithereens, here we go, I'm not very strong, so this might take more than 1 attempt.
As you can see, I didn't quite get it completely out.
So, I get to channel my rage and try again.
There you go, that works.
Now we can take a close look at the phone.
It's completely covered in dust.
I'm gonna try calling it again and see if it will respond, and it did.
This phone took up beating and it keeps on taking.
Okay, so this phone has past the first round of test and now we're gonna take a closer look even though it is covered in concrete dust.
It's got thick rubber all around it to protect this 2-inch screen and everything else including the battery.
It also has
these screws on the back to help keep the casing waterproof.
They're a little dusty, but here these mud flap that protects both the power duct and also the headphone jack.
And what's new about this Sonim phone is that for the first time ever, this jacks were actually waterproof.
Now, it has a standard 3.5-mm headset jack, but there is also a circular jack for the charger.
Luckily the phone does come with an adaptor so you can use a generic micro-USB adapter or any other kind of adaptor.
You'll notice that the keypad here is a little bit small, but the buttons here are ridged so that you should be in theory be able to press the buttons wearing gloves.
Now this phone does the longest amount of talk time out of all the Sonim phones, that's between 20 and 24 hours before charge.
Now, this is not a smartphone by any means, but you will be able to text, e-mail, and there is a music player and also an FM receiver inside.
Now durability is the real story behind these ragged phones and with that in mind, we're gonna
give this a little bit more punishment.
This phone can be submerged underwater, under 6-1/2 feet of water for 30 minutes.
We're gonna go that, but we are going to give it a little bit of a dog test; so, here we go.
And there it goes ringing underwater.
So, this phone is not about beauty, it's not particularly about brains; it's about being a beast.
I'm Jessica Dolcourt for CNET and this is the Sonim XP3300 Force.
