>> Brian Tong: Whoa. Welcome to Tap that App. I'm Brian Tong and this is the show where we cover the hottest apps in the mobile space. Today we're talking shopping because we're all looking to get the best price possible, so we're showcasing bar code scanning apps and require no setup for the Android, BlackBerry and iPhone platforms. Now in Android, the app you want to download is called ShopSavvy. That's one word and it's free. Place the bar code from a product inside the viewfinder, and instantly you'll get pricing from the web and physical retail stores that are local to you. You can also check reviews if they are available, purchase directly through the browser if you want and set alerts when your product is at a certain price. Out of all the apps we're talking about, you'll get the most pricing options from ShopSavvy. Now for the BlackBerry, check out ScanLife. This is really the only app that meets our conditions. You take a picture with the camera and make sure you have your camera settings on auto focus because it probably has the worst recognition out of all the apps. And even better, it also gives you the shortest list of price options. And when I say short, I mean short. But it's a solution for BlackBerry users. For the iPhone, check out Red Laser. Its bar code recognition is just as fast as Android's ShopSavvy and it gives you plenty of prices for online retailers and physical stores that are nearby. You can also purchase the product directly through the phone if you want to. So what's the verdict with all these apps? ShopSavvy for Android is the best of best with the most pricing options and features. And I'm tapping it. ScanLife needs to go back to the drawing board with its weak bar code recognition and limited price results, so I'm passing on that. And RedLaser for the iPhone comes in a close second to ShopSavvy with its fast response for pricing results and it's a definite tap as well. Also if you guys are looking for another scanning app, you can check CNET's Scan and Shop App for Android phones that plugs in directly to our own CNET reviews and it will be coming to the iPhone soon. It's a plug I know, but it's worth a look. That's going to do it for this week. Send me your apps you want to see or a theme for a show to tapthatapp@cnet.com. Thanks for watching and we'll see you guys next time.
