If you're looking to sell your old stuff online, Amazon can be a great alternative to eBay.
Hi, I'm Richard Peterson and today I'm going to show you how to sell your used tech on Amazon.
Selling on Amazon is fairly simple, and it comes with its own set of advantages and disadvantages.
It differs from eBay in a few ways.
First of all, it's not an auction, you set a fixed price,
and the buyer doesn't pay you directly.
Instead, the buyer pays Amazon, who then in turn pays you.
Also, you can't just create a listing for any old thing lying around the house.
The item has to already be in Amazon's catalog.
However, they do offer a Pro Merchant account that will let you create your own product listings for a monthly fee.
Keep in mind, with the free account, it's free to list your item, but when you sell, Amazon will collect a fee and commission.
Now, to begin, just search for the item you want to sell on the Amazon.com website.
Today, I'm going to sell this Xbox 360 game.
When you find the exact item you want to sell, click "Sell Yours" here on the right hand side.
Amazon will then ask you to verify that this is the exact item you're selling.
This is important because some items will have different versions or formats.
Next, select the condition--new or used but like new and so on.
You can also add a comment such as "Great condition" or "Some scratches on the front."
Generally, the more information you provide, the better, so that you don't surprise your customer when they receive the item.
Next, you'll enter your price.
On the right hand side of the page, you can see the list price that Amazon uses and the prices others are using to sell their new and used items.
From here, the basic laws of good business apply.
If you want to sell your item quickly, charge lower than your competitors.
This will put your item on top of the list.
Next, if you have more than one of the same item, set the quantity, then choose the shipping methods you'd like to offer your customers.
Amazon has standard shipping prices that they will charge your customer and pass on to you, so don't worry about paying for shipping yourself.
Now, here is where you will need to set up a seller's account, so you can collect payments from Amazon.
Just follow the forms and fill out the required information which includes a checking account so they can send you payments.
When you're done, your item should be listed in the Amazon marketplace, and it will show you how much Amazon will collect from the sale and what your final proceeds will be.
Sometimes, it can take a while to sell an item,
but if it's something hot like an iPad and at a good price, expect it to sell within hours.
When your item does get sold, you'll receive an e-mail from Amazon telling you to ship it.
To get the buyer's information, click on your account on the top right, then your seller account, and here click on "View your orders." This is a list of all the items you've sold in the last 7 days.
From here, I can get the buyer's address and print a packing slip.
Be sure to ship your item as quickly as possible.
If your customer gives you negative feedback, it could hurt future sales.
Now, after you pack up your item and ship it off, you'll come back to this page and confirm the shipment.
Once the shipment is confirmed, Amazon will put the money into your payments account.
For new sellers, you have to wait 14 days before Amazon will transfer those funds into your bank account, but after that, you can request money once a day.
Now that you know how to sell all your old junk on Amazon, be careful, this is a business and you may have to deal with the occasional refund request from unsatisfied customers.
