Samsung Captivate Glide (AT&T)
-If you like everything about those high end phones available right now except for the usual lock of the keyboard, then this phone was made especially for you, especially if you like a sub $200 price tag.
I'm Jessica Dolcourt for CNET.com, and this is your first look at the Samsung Captivate Glide.
This is a new phone for AT&T, and the specs are pretty impressive.
It's got NVIDIA's 1 gigahertz Tegra 2 dual-core processor for very fast internal performance.
There's also Samsung Super AMOLED screen.
It has really great color, really great clarity, and it runs off of AT&T's HSPA plus 4G network.
Now, that's not gonna quite as fast as LTE, but is going to be faster than 3G.
This phone also has an 8-megapixel camera and a 1.3-megapixel front facing camera and it takes video in 720p.
Now, the camera quality on this phone was pretty impressive.
Colors were very true to life and there was plenty of detail in most of the shots.
The front facing camera also took pretty good pictures as well.
The phone runs 2.3 Gingerbread, but it should be upgradable to version 4 of the operating system known as Ice Cream Sandwich that has not, however, been confirmed by Samsung.
Now, the apps here are typical Google apps, thinks like maps, navigation, and YouTube, and there are also apps on there like Samsung's DLNA sharing app called all share,
and AT&T U-verse, which is a subscription based program for streaming and downloading TV content that will cost you $10 a month.
There's also quick light on here for video chats.
There's AT&T barcode scanning app as well, and all of this, the whole package with the dual-core processor and 4G speeds comes to a price tag of $150.
This is not the least expensive phone out there, but is a fair price tag for all that you've got despite some of my quibbles, which I will get to know.
My biggest complaint is honestly how it looks and feels.
It's got this plastic front, which is fine, but it also has this plastic back.
Now, text book at the back should be good because it is textured with raised dots and that's supposed to help improve grippiness.
However, I actually found it really slippery and I didn't love the feel in my hand.
It felt a little bit cheap to me, and the keyboard itself has very flat buttons that are almost flushed, so I couldn't accurately when I was looking on it, but I was definitely typing a little bit slower and I had to keep my eyes on
the keyboard.
I did like the proportion of the keyboard, though, and I also like the blue accent color on the keys.
So, in the bigger picture, this is a pretty good phone for price, and it definitely is the best android phone with the keyboard for AT&T, but looking costly at it, it is disappointing that Samsung didn't do as much with the phone build as it could have.
If it looked and felt a little bit better, I think it would be better value as well, and there you have it that's the AT&T Samsung Captivate Glide, I'm Jessica Dolcourt,
