CES 2014: Rest is assured with Withings Aura Active Sleep System at CES 2014

1:36 /

Withings Aura Active Sleep System is completely dedicated to sleep.

Hello, I'm Luke Westaway here at CES 2014 taking a look at gadget just making me sleepy just thinking about it. It's the Withings Aura. All right, now this system comes in two different parts. To start with there's this lamp. This thing is packed full of sensors. It detects light. It detects noise and it detects temperature. So if it's a noisy night while you're sleeping or if you let the TV on for example, it will fax all that information into an app so that you can then look at it back later and see how did it affects my sleep patterns. The lamp also shines different colors at you depending on whether you're going to sleep or waking up. Withings told me that when you go to sleep, you'll get melatonin inducing colors to help you drift off, and when it's time to wake up, melatonin inhibiting colors. The second part of this gadget is this, it's the mattress sensor. Now you put this thing under your mattress and it measures what Withings call as micro movements. So it basically detects tiny movements in your chest and using that it could monitor your heart rate and your breathing rate so you get an idea of when you're sleeping soundly. It should be on sale in a few months time but all that easy sleeping will cost you. It's gonna be about $300 when it does go on sale. I like the look of it though. I'll be interested to know if it really does work. I'm Luke Westaway for CNET here at CES 2014. Check out ces.cnet.com for more.
