Find out what people in London, Munich, and Sydney are shopping and wishing for this holiday season.
[ Music ] ^M00:00:05 >> Hi, I'm Rory Reid reporting from Tottenham Court Road, a place that many considered to be London's gadget Mecca. Now I'm here in search of a very special type of person. Someone who isn't affected by the global economic downturn and someone who loves gadgets. Now when I find them, I'm gonna find out what it is they want for Christmas. So sir, are you into your gadgets? >> Missus -- I'd like to say no because if my Missus sees this, then I'm in trouble. But of course I'm a boy. What boy isn't into gadgets? >> So Tottenham Court Road is kind of like all about gadgets, and technology and stuff like that? Are you into that at all? >> No. >> Not really? >> No, not at all. >> What is it with girls? They don't really like that sort of thing. >> It's boring. It's not interesting. >> So, that's why I'm here in Tottenham Court Road choosing some speakers and an amplifier. >> What have you got your eye on, so far? >> Well, money is a bit of an issue. So, I've spent a lot on the Bose Speakers, so I'm looking for a cheap amplifier now. >> Okay, cool. What kind of music you listen to? >> All sorts, a bit of classical, a bit of rock, a bit of salsa. >> Yeah? No gangster rap? >> Not gangster rap. No, not gone into that yet. >> Are you into technology by any chance? >> No. >> So what were you buying in that lovely shop over there? >> I was just buying a camcorder for my younger brother for Christmas. >> Camcorder? >> Yeah. >> So, he's like a budding film journalist or something? >> Yeah, he just likes anything that's electronics, really. >> So, I just purchased a nice TV. >> Which one did you get? >> I've got the LCD, the New Sony Bravia. >> Cool. You wanna get any game consoles to go with that? >> I've got a PlayStation 3. I've got a little boy who's seven. So, it's essential equipment nowadays, and that if you don't have that, you're in trouble. >> Yeah. You're not a good enough father. >> Yeah, exactly. >> What else are you buying for Christmas, an iPod, that sort of thing? >> Yeah, just the usual. Like everybody else, got something. I haven't been that bad. I've been quite good. I'm getting older now, so I'm not buying anything that comes out. So I'm looking at things and see more, you know, it's a good time to get deals now, as well, so... >> I'll tell you what you need to do -- buy your Missus something battery operated that she can quite appreciate, you know. >> She's already got a lot of it, I might worry about that. >> So there you have it. That's London. That's Tottenham Court Road. A lot of people seem to know what they want for Christmas, but a vast majority don't have a clue whatsoever. Santa, if you're listening, you've got a hard time comin' up. I'm Rory Reid for Planet CNET. ^M00:02:04 [ Music ] ^M00:02:05 >> Hi, I'm Ella Morton, and these are the gifts that Sidneysiders would love to receive this Holiday Season. >> Number one, a holiday could be awesome, but, more practically, a stereo would be tops, too. >> Can I say video games? Love the video games. I've got my PS3 and my 360. So, every -- all games are welcome. >> There's three that I wouldn't mind getting. The first one would be an exact model replica of the Queen Mary II. >> A little bit of quiet or I'd like my brother to leave home, definitely. >> What's so bad about your brother? >> He's always stealing my stuff, especially like my iPod. >> And -- man, this is tough. >> Second one would be a much better digital camera. >> I probably exhausted my Christmas wish list in the year when I received a MacBook Pro and an iTouch. >> I don't know, I think I pretty much have most awesome presents already that I bought for myself through the year and give them as myself to gift, so, I have an iPhone, a PS3, 50-inch plasma. >> But in an ultimate world, probably a digital FLR Camera. >> The third one, I don't know if I'll be able to get it, but if I can get some neo-domination in the world, that would be awesome. ^M00:03:17 [ Music ] ^M00:03:19 >> Hi. It's December the 13th. It's quite cold out here. I'm Daniel from CNET.de. Welcome to downtown Munich and this is the Hofbrauhaus. ^M00:03:29 [ Music ] ^M00:03:33 >> I can smell sausages, kraut and gluhwein here. We are here at one of the town's largest Christmas markets right at the City Center. There's the New Town Hall with the famous gluckin sphere [phonetics]. Now, that's enough for culture. We'll check over to the Apple Store. ^M00:03:48 [ Music ] ^M00:03:53 >> I got an iPod for Christmas. >> I got an iPod for Christmas. >> Yeah. >> It's always nice, too, to have a present on Christmas day. >> And what's inside the bag? >> Inside the bag, there's just, you know, plug-in to the TV. >> Okay, thanks. >> That's all. >> Enjoy. >> Bye-bye. >> Entschuldigung. >> Hallo. >> This is meine iPod for me. This is [inaudible] megabyte. >> An iPod? Das >> Ja, danke schoen. >> Chao. >> Chao. >> A laptop bag -- no. >> Yeah. >> I don't know how you call it. >> It's a laptop bag. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> For your sister? >> For my sister, from me. >> Great. Enjoy it. >> Thank you. >> Merry Christmas. ^M00:04:36 [ Music ] ^M00:04:42 >> Now we check over to [inaudible] house to look what people get for Christmas outside the Apple world. What's inside the bag? >> It's a -- a computer game and what's that? >> A DVD. >> Yes. >> Right. ^M00:04:58 [ Speaking in foreign language ] ^M00:05:04 >> He bought a hard drive, an external hard drive for his dad. >> I bought a photo apparatus for my daughter. >> Very Good. >> Great! >> We just bought a DVD for my mother for Christmas. >> Great. >> I just bought a CD for my little brother for Christmas. >> Great. >> I bought DVDs and CDs for my family. >> Great. All the Germans buy CDs and DVDs. ^M00:05:28 [ Sound effects ] ^M00:05:33 >> What did you buy for Christmas? >> The razor. >> It's a razor? >> Yeah, a razor. >> Who gets it from you? >> My father. >> Oh, great! >> Okay, as you see Germans... >> Yeah, rock on -- yeah, hoo. MySpace... >> Okay it's still cold here. Now it's also dark outside and Germans bought CDs, DVDs, razors, digital cameras, and everything else for Christmas. Happy Holiday! ^M00:06:03 [ Music ] ^M00:06:06 >> It's about 30 degrees Celsius out here in the tropics, but we're having a white Christmas. That's how this island on the equator celebrates the festive season. As early as November, shopping centers roll out Santa and reindeer sleds. The main streets turn on the fairy lights. And over here in the busy corner of town, we have snow. Okay, as real as it gets, from a foam machine. All these sights and lights naturally pushing the shoppers. Let's take this opportunity to ask them what they want for Christmas. So, there, what would you like to get for Christmas? >> I'm thinking of maybe I like to receive a Notebook. >> Merry Christmas, we won an iPhone. >> For this Christmas, I would like to have a full range camera for 3D3, Nikon. >> For Christmas, I'd like to have a Netbook. >> For Christmas, I like to have iPod Touch. >> I want boyfriend. Yeee... >>I feel those folks ask me if I was gonna give them what they want for Christmas. Well, I certainly don't know where to buy a robotic boyfriend for that lady. I'm John Chan, signing off for the rest of the year. ^M00:07:10 [ Music ]
