First Look: Pandigital Supernova

2:01 /

The Pandigital SuperNova has an appealling price, but doesn't offer enough to be ultimately worth the money.

-At $200, one would hope that Pandigital SuperNova Tablet wouldn't feel like a $200 tablet, but something more expensive. In other words, if you're getting a tablet for $200, you're probably hoping that at the very least, it doesn't feel cheap. The good news is that it doesn't feel like it cost $200. The bad news is that it actually feels a little bit cheaper. The 8-inch Supernova has a very classic like feel when held, but at the same time is light and smooth with no jagged edges or sharp corners. It also includes more features than we were expecting with a micro SD card slot, headphone jack, mini USB, micro HDMI, and a power button and volume racker on the top. There is both a front facing and rear camera. The tablet runs Android 2.3, so it also has 4-Android navigation buttons, home settings back and search on the front, and on the back, in the top right corner is a single speaker. Navigation feels fairly snappy, but we did notice some lag when opening certain things like the gallery app. The screen has a low resolution and narrow viewing angles making text look less sharp than what we are accustomed to. The biggest problem with the OS, however, is the lack of an Android market. Instead, you get the rock bottom poor men's version called GetJar, which doesn't have nearly as many apps available. Even at $200, the Pandigital SuperNova isn't worth the asking price. It works as a very basic tablet and if that's all you're looking for rest assured, you'll get that. However, there are better ways to spend your tablet craving dollar with tablets that are much better values even at higher prices. I'm Eric Franklin, and this has been the first look at the Pandigital SuperNova.
