First Look: Nikon Coolpix S60

1:28 /

Fun features and chic styling make the Nikon Coolpix S60 a tasty choice for casual point-and-shoot use. However, if you need speed or snapshot perfection, this isn't your camera.

[ Music ] ^M00:00:02 >> Hi there, I'm Josh Goldman, Senior Editor for CNET Reviews and this is the Nikon Coolpix S60. The 10-megapixel S60 is certainly one of the prettiest cameras we've seen this year. This is in part due to the absence of most physical controls. All you get are these buttons on top for turning the camera on and off and the shutter release. Everything else is handled by the 3.5-inch touchscreen LCD on the back that includes using the camera's five times optical zoom. Thankfully, shooting controls on the S60 are responsive enough so you don't miss any shots. With the screen is a bit laggy is when you have to go into the menu system to change some settings. We also experience the occasional delay during playback, but overall the touchscreen is fun and adds to the usability by letting you do things like tap the subject to want to focus on onscreen or add notes or draw on the photos before you transfer them off the camera. As for a photo quality in just tend to be a little soft and the overall performance is relatively slow for its class. However, if you're looking for a cool looking casual snapshoot camera to slip in your pocket or bag for a party, this is a nice option that will definitely get you noticed. I'm Josh Goldman and that's the Nikon Coolpix S60. ^M00:01:26 [ Music ]
