First Look: Lenovo ThinkPad X120e

The AMD Fusion-powered ThinkPad x120e is an 11-inch ultraportable that's better and more affordable than last year's model, making it an even better choice for small-business buyers.

-Hi! I'm Scott Stein and this is the Lenovo ThinkPad X120e. In case you haven't noticed, something big is going on in the world of small ultra portable laptops. Namely, there are a lot of 11.6-inch laptops that are beginning to take the place of netbooks. They are a little bit more expensive, but there are often faster and better; and a lot them now use this AMD Fusion platform using a new processor, the AMD E-350, that has some great performance, graphics, and battery life to boot. Now, the Lenovo ThinkPad X120e happens to be one of those. Last year, we looked at the X100e, which was the same chassis and design using AMD Neo processor. It was a little slower. The battery life wasn't as great, and it didn't have graphics performance like this does. Well, the design is exactly the same as last time. You got a great keyboard, kind of a small track pad, and this weird annoying track point which is common if you're a ThinkPad user, but nobody else really likes them. And the whole feel is very sleek, very business like except for those bulging battery in the back, but then again it does have good battery life. The X120e ranges in price from 399 up to actually about a $1000. Our version came in at 579 and has a 320G hard drive, and 4G of RAM, and the E-350 CPU. The great new is, the battery life comes in at a little under 6 hours and you can actually play games. While we don't recommend it as a gaming machine, the fact that it can is kinda cool. Overall, it's a really nice machine for the money. Just be sure to know that there are a lot of other laptops like this that are gonna be on the market.
