iPad Mini launches with mini lines
-Hi, I'm Kara Tsuboi filling in for Bridget Carey, and this is your CNET update.
The newest edition to the tiny tablet craze has arrived.
Apple launched the iPad Mini on Friday.
The screen is roughly 2 inches smaller than the 4th generation full size iPad, which also hit stores on Friday.
There weren't as many people online as a typical iPhone launch, but there were still crowds.
Even in New York where many are still
without power from Superstorm Sandy.
In fact, the first in line to get the iPad Mini at the 5th Avenue Apple Store was Queen's resident without power or utilities at his home.
Just about everyone interviewed online at the flagship San Francisco Apple store said they were getting the iPad Mini not the larger model.
Analyst estimate Apple could sell as many as 1.5 million iPad Minis over the weekend, would be significantly lower than the 3 million 3rd generation iPads sold
during its release in March.
Apple released its first bug fix update for iOS 6. The update addresses several problems including one that has become a headache for businesses that use.
The bug would delete a meeting for all invited attendees in case a user decline the invitation.
The update also fixes a bug that kept iPhone 5 uses from installing over air the software updates.
One of the big tablets this season is Microsoft Surface and the entry level $500 model without a touch keyboard cover
is listed as out of stock online.
Some Microsoft pop up stores still have some available and the models that come bundled with the black cover are still available online.
Oprah named the Surface one of her favorite things of year and said it was like a Mercedes Benz, so that might help sales a bit, don't you think?
The Surface is only sold online and not Microsoft stores.
The surface was the first computer made by Microsoft and now a Microsoft phone could be on the way.
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Microsoft
its testing its own smartphone right now with parts suppliers in Asia.
Sources said the phone has a screen between 4 and 5 inches.
Facebook now lets you donate to charities using Facebook gift.
The launch came in the wake Superstorm Sandy and the Red Cross will be one of the eleven nonprofit organizations participating.
The feature is rolling out to all users over the next several days.
And Groupon is taking a different type of donation for victims of Sandy.
When you visit groupon.com/sandy,
you can donate money to small businesses impacted by the superstorm.
That is your tech news update for today.
