>> Hi, I'm Rich Brown, Senior Editor for CNET.com. Today we're going to take a look at the HP Pavilion 6110Y. This is a $520 fixed-config desktop. You'll find it in retail stores around the country. And it's pretty much just a basic straight up mainstream mid-tower PC. You'll see few surprises on the front panel. There's a media card reader here, there's a DVD burner behind this door here. Slide that door down and you get two USB ports as well as your front panel audio inputs. Now around the back you'll see it's also pretty straightforward. You've got your seven in one audio jacks, a couple of USB ports, Ethernet, fire wire, which is really the only distinguishing characteristic of this PC, sadly enough. You also have basic keyboard and mouse, separate audio and a modem even, up here. Now inside it looks like your basic mainstream desktop as well. You have four memory slots here. The system actually has 6 gigs of RAM, so if you want to upgrade to 8, you'll have to take out two of the smaller sticks. That's two 2 gigs and two 1 gig sticks. There's a dual-core Pentium chip here, it's an E5300. It's relatively fast. It's certainly faster than a Netbook, so you know, there's that. Now for expansion slots, you get a standard PCI slot, a PCI express slot for graphics upgrades, as well as one 1X PCI express slot for which you can add a WiFi card, sound cards, they even make TV tuners now that fit in the 1X PCI express slot. So you do get a fair bit of room to add expansion cards. We wish the hard drive setup was little bit better though. The drive cage here will let you stick another drive or two inside it, but it's a little bit awkward. You have to take the whole thing out if you want to add another hard drive. So that's really about all there is to this system. And, you know, for 500, 520 bucks, we don't expect a lot, but other vendors like Asus and Gateway have PCs for the same price that have quad-core CPUs, HD video outs, they've done some interesting things. You know, HP certainly has a fine PC here for the price, but, you know, we just think the vendors are doing some neater stuff. And it's probably about time that HP got a little more aggressive on the lower end. So, I'm Rich Brown. This is the HP Pavilion 6110Y.
