First Look: HP Envy 4t, a budget ultrabook with Beats

3:27 /

HP's $679 14-inch laptop is an awfully good value for a slim and somewhat stylish laptop, but be forewarned that that includes an older Intel Core i3 processor.

Hi I'm Scott Stein and if you're shopping for a laptop this time year one word comes to mind. Ultra book ultra book ultra book if you haven't heard it already. You're seeing tons a laptop showing up now. In the -- and even affordable space. Trying to sell you an instinct package that's portable and maybe even affordable and one of the -- that comes to mind right now is the HP and -- Now the HP -- was a top of the line brand before I in the HP laptops spectrum now it applies to warm midrange set of laptops the HP -- For ultra buck. And is also a fifteen inch model an enemy is a little more confusing you've got the -- books which are in -- powered laptops and sometimes even HP's website didn't seem to quite get it right. And this is called the -- but when -- look for last. Nevertheless what the ultra book term means is that there is an Intel processor inside and sleep book means MD which generally means more affordable. And we did reduce sleep book on our site a 599. Model very affordable. Opt for what it contained inside in a fifteen point six inch screen size. This is a fourteen inch screen size it's selling in best buy any retail configuration -- 679. Now for an Intel powered ultra book that's really good but. Yet to consider what it contains here there's a core I three processor from last year. It's an older processor that's showing up on a few models you're starting to see that on some of these budget models including the -- and book -- X 32 day. And when you get here are still pretty good value get a 500 gigabyte hard drive four gigs of ram that's basically -- you need. Plus the core I three processor does pretty well but it's more equivalent to that EMD processor. Then to some of those faster core I fives from this here these -- to -- all over the place in a lot of ultra books and the MacBook Air. Now you're also getting any thicker slightly heavier ultra book here there's a fourteen inch has a slightly different size weight. In fact. It looks a lot like other HP laptops now this has an ethernet port that has an SD card slot USB three point oh and a really good battery life about six hours. -- A lot of other ultra books have that too so that's not quite as unique. And when you consider that this -- Intel HD 3000 graphics not for thousands of the -- one. Games really don't play wellness and also don't line up for that. But if you're looking for an all -- laptop -- you wanna get under 700 dollars. You may want to take a look at this just consider the you can configure a variety of other options and get yourself a little bit faster if you want. Or drop down to an even more affordable price with the AMD processor. Another feature on the HP -- that makes it a little bit unique is beats audio although beats audio shows up on most HP products at this point. In this instance it's a speaker bar. That's up above the keyboard that pumps out supposedly better quality sound I think it's better in an equalizer form for headphones. -- in the speaker bar which is loud. But not the best speaker quality that I've ever heard. Hopefully that gives you a little bit of a clear idea of what the budget landscape looks like right now. And -- pretty good budget choice in the HP and before war 1015 DX that's the configuration model for this I'm Scott Stein and that's a look at this particular feature in the world for the.
