You don't have to spend a lot or even anything to get driving directions in your car. Brian Cooley explains.

[ Music ] ^M00:00:06 >> Brian: GPS Nav built into the dash of your car, very slick but still a pricey luxury. I'm gonna show you 3 ways to get the same job done for a little or no money. First, you should know the price on these portable GPS nav units has come way down, these used to be hundreds of dollars. Now, even the name brand units can be had for $100 or a little bit more for the basic units. Not a lot of bells and whistles but they will have a touch-screen, clear maps and they will give you voice prompts of what to do next. But even cheaper than buying an inexpensive one of these is to use something you already own, your smartphone. All the major wireless carriers offer downloadable programs you can put on one of these that will navigate you very much like a built-in GPS. It costs between $2 a day and $10 a month to use it. The downside is you have to juggle navigation with calls and other functions on the phone. But even cheaper still is free. You can install Google Maps on most Smartphones. Now, you don't get turn by turn directions but you do get a direction list and indications on the map, also live traffic, and because it's Google you can search for things and then get directions there.
