GameSpot's The Lobby - Does the Xbox One need an upgrade too?

[MUSIC] [UNKNOWN] here's a little bit and talk about Xbox One. Phil Spencer says you will actually see us come out with a new hardware capability during this generation [UNKNOWN] a couple of months ago This is then something that he sort of touched on a couple of times? He said during a generation. During a generation. Not this generation. Not this generation. Correct. So do you not think that the Xbox One, being the console of the two that most people would probably say is probably requiring an upgrade, do you think that they'll go a similar route? I think that they certainly could. I don't see why they wouldn't. Especially because they exist in the PC space where this is something that they're pretty used to, right? Yes, and look. Both of the GPU's in each of the consoles are created by AMD. They're manufacturing processes in terms of how small and cool they can make chips, have improved quite a bit. I believe both consoles started at 28 nanometers and now they're down to Like 14 [INAUDIBLE] manufacturing processes. Yowza. So the same hardware developer, working with both partners. It stands for reason that they will approach Microsoft if Sony has approached them, or Dave approached Sony. It just seems to make sense to me. I don't see why they wouldn't. The other thing about this is I guess if we sort of unified the Windows platform already. That's the direction they've been going in for a little while. And the Xbox originally was always this big plan to try to get the PC space in the living room, to own that space since it seems really weird that in 2016 we still don't have A real leader there. In fact, it's kind of broken into all these other things, like steam machines and for a while there, I thought shuttle PCs [LAUGH] might be the way it all goes. Do we start to see the walls break down between, cuz if the Xbox One essentially becomes a upgradeable console, then its almost only difference to a PC in branding if that's it. No. No? Services, my friend. Services like what? PC gamers don't need Xbox Live. Yeah, good point. I mean you're gonna, if those two really become unified, Microsoft will have to back off some of their Their practice is to make money off of consoles, which are traditionally sold really close to cost. Mm. Or under cost. So unless they do that, I don't think they could bring both markets together and make both parties happy. But maybe they're trying to offset that with what they're doing with Quantum Break, with the whole, you can repurchase this via the Windows store They're trying to take some sort of control over. Yeah, the same with Gears of War 10. I mean yeah, there may be part of that but no one's happy about that. I think if anything, it's going to turn people off. Yeah. I mean you look at something like that and you immediately say, but Steam does it this. There's already a better example out there than what they're trying to do on PC. And just like games for Windows Live, I can't see this effort lasting long enough to actually. Lead to any meaningful positive change for Microsoft. It's only gonna be a detriment over time. Mike, do you own an Xbox One? Yep. Would you be looking forward to an upgraded version of it? I mean, if the Playstation 4 ends up getting a GPU push, then what dos that even, the Xbox One, the graphic department [LAUGH] videos are gonna be real fun then, right? Yeah, I don't know. I Yeah I would be up for it. There are a few games I've noticed, most of the time when I choose between PS4 and Xbox One I go with PS4 just because the majority of my friends are on that. It's not always a graphical consideration, but. I have to imagine that Microsoft was thinking about doing something this generation, not that that's what they said. The whole Playstation 4.5 might be kind of the impetus for them to consider it even more strongly. Yeah, I'd be up for it. I don't know That I would be jumping at the gun to get it right away only because like I said, Quantum Break looks great on the XBox One. I think we're playing Rise of the Tomb Raider DLC later. I've never had a situation where I said I really wish I was playing this on PS4 just because it would look that much better. Right. In that case I would probably just go to PC if I do that much of an upgrade. I had a bit of that over the winter. Cuz I saw people playing on PlayStation 4 and I was playing on the Xbox One, and it actually did, I can notice that it was sharper looking on the PlayStation 4. Of course, on PC, I couldn't even look at the PC version. This looks disgusting to me. [LAUGH] I have a wild theory. Okay, go for it. Both companies are potentially planning this because the Nintendo NX Will be more powerful than the current duration. [LAUGH] No, I'm not joking. [INAUDIBLE]. No, I like [UNKNOWN] that's 100% a possibility. Yeah? Yeah, think about- So this is a counter punch to Nintendo's Swing, yeah? Way. I mean, I mean, if Nintendo came in with the most Powerful console in the world, that'd be quite a statement. Yes. Yeah. All right that's all. No, I just wanted to throw that out there, because I honestly, there have been rumors that they are working towards a device that is the most powerful And if that's true, these companies have to do it. Could we be looking at an E3 where we see three consoles in it? I hope so. That would be so much fun. I want a wild and crazy E3 so bad and I don't want it to be just about VR. Right. I really don't want it to just be about VR. Well, GDC was maybe a bit too much on the VR side. Yeah. Obviously it's not like- So was CGS the past two years. Yeah Anyway. We'll have to see. interacting times ahead. [UNKNOWN] already, how far are we from e3, two months? Two months and change March, April, May, June, three months, three months, three new [UNKNOWN] will be coming. Let us know what your You're excited is that the Playstation 4.5, the Xbox 1.5. They're not gonna call it .5 because then that screws them up if they need to put out another iteration three years from now. .6! What happened to .2 1 through 4? What do they call it, the 4.2, 4.1, the 4k! But if it doesn't do 4k then it's gonna be like [SOUND]. No, it'll do 4k video! Gods. And they call it the Xbox 2. [LAUGH] Yeah.>> Why not? If you're talking about blending the identify of what Microsoft gaming is then XBox 2 is just as good as anything else they can call it. If they call it XBox 2 that's awful. The fourth XBox is the XBox 2. You wanna make a bet if this comes out whether it's called that or not? Okay yeah what's the bet? Do I have to shave my beard again? But I like your beard. Okay.
